THE NAZI’S ATROCITIES
The unthinkable atrocities committed by Nazi’s in Poland at the end of World War II was a crisis. The actions were cruel and inhumane and Polish people responded in different ways. Basia’s father, who was a fire chief at the local fire station, hid a family of Polish Jews in a maintenance pit under a fire truck. This response was an act of bravely, as he risked his own life and the life of his family in the hope that he would give life to others. Another example of the Nazi’s atrocities was Adolf Hitler’s belief in racial purity, a crisis. This belief resulted in the persecution and mass murder of millions of Polish Jews who trudged through the main street of Warsaw to death camps. The response.
“My father used to hide polish jews familIES so they will not be transported to Auschwitz.”
Basia recalls her father’s heroic actions in response to the Nazi’s atrocities. His decision risked the lives of his family.
“I was witnessing here as a little girl standing with my friends, looking at germans, they were escorting thousands of jewish people.”
Basia recalls witnessing the crisis that changed the course of history. In freezing snowy conditions, Polish Jews and their young children were pushed with guns and bayonets by Nazi’s soldiers for the 18km journey from Warsaw to Pruszków. Upon arrival, they were locked in trains and taken to Auschwitz and other death camps.
